DVR & NVR Recorders: Frequently Asked Questions
What is a DVR unit?
A DVR (digital video recorder) records video from CCTV cameras onto a hard drive, so you can watch live footage and play back recordings on a screen or your phone.
Which is better, DVR or NVR?
An NVR works with IP cameras and usually offers higher resolution and PoE, while a DVR works with analogue or Turbo HD cameras and is ideal for upgrading systems with existing cables.
How many channels does a DVR have?
Recorders usually come with 4, 8, 16 or 32 channels. Each channel records one camera, so choose a few more channels than you need today.
What are the types of DVR?
The main types are analogue or Turbo HD DVRs for coaxial cameras, hybrid recorders that accept both analogue and IP cameras, and NVRs for IP cameras only.
